What is Modern Karate?
The purpose of Modern Karate is simple: to forge technical excellence while training the spirit to a positive end. Modern Karate has its roots in the traditions of Japanese and Okinawan karate-do, from Shotokan to more contemporary stand-up styles. Each class involves training in kihon, kata, and/or kumite, with strong emphasis on the body mechanics leading to stability, speed, and power. Tuesday night classes are reserved for kihon and kata/bunkai practice to allow students to grasp the mechanics behind karate. Thursday nights are intense kumite training sessions designed to sharpen student's real-time reflexes and timing in a controlled setting while using proper technique. Please note that a belt ranking system will not be used in this class. Please wear karate pants and a school t-shirt. A list of required equipment can be obtained from the office manager or instructor. Call 979-695-7150 for more information.
